A liberatory approach to therapy.

My approach is psychoanalytic, feminist, and anti-oppressive.

We will work to understand how your struggles are shaped by history and social context, as well as your own life experiences. We'll look at the relational patterns in your life now and where they came from. We will explore the unconscious dynamics shaping your relationships, the ways you've adapted to difficulty, and the systems that made those adaptations necessary in the first place. Through developing insight, we can begin to make sense of what's recurring in your life and why.

I should say, it's not always so heavy: there's room for humor, lightness, and connection in the work too.

Ethos

We will work together to alleviate suffering in all its forms. I believe therapy must entail a relationship that is honest and nonjudgmental, that is affirming, and that takes care of the tender parts of us while also attending to the need for growth and evolution. At the same time, therapy can only be efficacious when there is a good fit between therapist and client. A good working relationship lays the necessary foundation for the hard work of psychotherapy.

My clients often describe me as warm, challenging, dedicated, intense, and fun. This combination might not be for everyone. Figuring that out together is what the consultation process is for.
